Review direct-contact materials, seals and closures, ink and label resistance, stress cracking, panel or fit changes, leakage, migration, appearance, dispensing and consumer use over the intended shelf life. A material that performs with one formula should not be assumed to work with another.
Map every formula-to-package contact point
Create a component map before testing. Include the primary container or pouch, sealant, closure, liner, fitment, gasket, pump or applicator, label adhesive, inks, coatings, carton and molded insert. Direct contact is important, but vapor, wicking, accidental spill and bathroom storage can expose secondary surfaces as well.
Formula details such as oils, surfactants, alcohol, fragrance, solvents, pigments, acids, bases and water content may influence plastics, films, adhesives, printed surfaces and metalized finishes differently.

Define failure before building the test plan
Compatibility is broader than visible leakage. Potential failure modes include seal loss, delamination, swelling, brittleness, stress cracking, discoloration, odor transfer, label lifting, ink softening, corrosion, deformation, weight loss, poor dispensing and unacceptable changes in the formula or package appearance.
Prioritize the failure modes that matter to the format. A sample sachet may emphasize seal and laminate integrity, while a labeled jar may require close attention to formula residue, label edges, cap interaction and repeated bathroom handling.
Use realistic and accelerated conditions carefully
Test filled production-intent packages in the orientations, temperatures, humidity, light exposure, opening cycles and distribution conditions expected in use. Accelerated aging can help compare options, but its relationship to real-time shelf life must be defined for the product and failure mechanism.
Include controls, agreed inspection intervals, acceptance criteria and documented observations. When changes occur, determine whether the source is the formula, material, converting process, closure, filling operation or interaction between components.

Keep packaging review separate from claim approval
Packaging development can provide printable areas, dielines and component documentation, but the responsible manufacturer or distributor must approve cosmetic identity, ingredients, net contents, warnings, business information and marketing claims for the intended market.
Do not describe ordinary packaging review as FDA approval. The final specification, formula, test evidence, manufacturing controls and approved label content should remain traceable through production release.
