Direct answer
For a multi-serve dried fruit pouch, evaluate the unopened package and the consumer's repeated-opening period separately. Fruit type, initial moisture, target texture, product contact with the zipper and storage conditions should drive the brief. A resealable zipper is a use feature; it does not by itself establish unopened barrier performance or shelf life after opening.
Name the fruit and desired texture
Raisins, dried apricots and crisp fruit pieces need different product and handling descriptions. Record the exact fruit, initial moisture or water-activity information if available, target texture, piece size, coatings, net fill and whether the pack is one-use or multi-use. P&M's [snack packaging page](/industries/snack-packaging) explicitly includes dried fruit among custom empty pouch and rollstock projects; the structure and claims must be reviewed against the exact product.
A [primary dried-fruit storage study](https://www.mdpi.com/2304-8158/8/2/56/pdf?version=1549876044) examined specific apricots and raisins, films, atmospheres and temperatures. It shows why initial conditions and package transfer should be considered together. Its finding about the tested films and nitrogen cannot be generalized to all fruit, films or P&M constructions.
Split unopened storage from after-opening use
| Stage | What to review | Evidence owner |
|---|---|---|
| Before first opening | Finished top seal, laminate, handling and product-quality endpoints | Brand quality team with the package and filler |
| First opening | Tear path, usable opening and product spill | Brand and packaging team on filled samples |
| Repeated use | Fruit on zipper tracks, reclosure effort and intended storage instructions | Brand use trial under defined conditions |
| Distribution | Filled-bag shape, edge contact, case orientation and seal condition | Packaging and logistics teams |
A zipper and the factory top seal answer different questions. Define both before requesting a material recommendation.
Test texture and package condition together
Set the brand's acceptable changes in texture, appearance and flavor under the planned storage conditions. Inspect the same filled construction for seal damage, zipper contamination and handling effects. A water-vapor transmission figure for flat film does not include the finished seal, closure or consumer opening sequence.
If one SKU is soft fruit and another is crisp fruit, do not apply one texture endpoint or reclosure result to both. Keep an approval record by fruit, format, material revision and fill condition. The [general freshness guide](/knowledge-center/why-packaged-products-lose-freshness-shelf-life-solutions) explains the wider moisture and oxygen pathways; this worksheet is limited to a dried-fruit multi-serve buying decision.
Request a dried fruit pouch review
Send product and moisture information, target texture and storage, fill weight, bag reference, zipper or tear requirement, filling equipment, artwork count, case pack, quantity per SKU and delivery destination. Ask for representative filled samples and an agreed quality-test plan before assigning a shelf-life claim.
General educational information only. Materials, performance, compliance, claims, quantities, and timing require confirmation for the exact packaging project.
