Specify custom shrink sleeve labels by providing the final container and closure, material and tolerances, sleeve coverage, layflat and cut length, shrink-film requirements, seam and perforation, artwork and distortion template, application equipment, tunnel type and profile, line speed, quantities, and the trials needed to approve the decorated container.

Start with the final container and production line

Container geometry drives sleeve engineering. Provide production-representative containers and closures plus a dimensioned drawing or 3D data, material, fill conditions, tolerances, orientation features, decoration coverage, and any areas that must remain exposed.

Document the applicator, mandrel or tooling, tunnel type, temperature zones, steam or air conditions, conveyor and line speed, container spacing, orientation method, and downstream handling. A sleeve that shrinks well in a lab may still need line-specific adjustment.

Select film, layflat, cut length, seam, and perforation

Container shoulders, necks, tapers, recesses, grip features, and diameter changes create local shrink demands. Film shrink curve, maximum shrink, transverse and machine-direction behavior, gauge, friction, storage, and container distortion risk should be reviewed together.

Specify layflat, cut length, seam width and position, seaming chemistry or process, solvent retention controls where applicable, slip, roll or cut-sleeve supply, and perforation position and performance for tamper-evident or removal functions.

Build sleeve artwork with distortion compensation

Artwork must be adapted to the three-dimensional container and expected shrink. Keep barcodes, small copy, faces, logos, regulatory information, and critical geometry away from severe distortion zones when possible, and account for seam, overlap, white ink, opacity, transparency, varnish, and container show-through.

Approve color and graphics on the actual container through a representative shrink process. A flat proof cannot show final distortion, seam visibility, wrinkles, gloss, opacity, or how the artwork aligns to container features.

Validate seaming, application, tunnel shrink, and use

Trials may review layflat and cut accuracy, seam strength, solvent or adhesive control, roll winding, application, sleeve drop and position, tunnel profile, shrink sequence, wrinkles, smiling or frowning, scuffing, container distortion, and line efficiency.

Finished-package checks may include visual standards, barcode readability, copy legibility, perforation and opening, tamper-evident function where claimed, storage, condensation or chemical exposure, abrasion, handling, and distribution performance.
