These are finished outside dimensions and should be confirmed with the intended bean or ground coffee, roast, headspace, valve, zipper, material, seals, and physical fill test.

How to read coffee-bag dimensions

All dimensions below are finished outside dimensions in millimeters. Stand-up pouch dimensions are written width × height + bottom gusset. Side-gusset dimensions are front width × height + side gusset. Flat-bottom dimensions are front width × height + side width + bottom width.

Use the drawing for the selected format and orientation. Portrait and landscape layouts can carry the same labeled weight but use different panel proportions, so the customer-approved dieline remains the production reference.

8 oz, 12 oz, 16 oz and 1 lb retail coffee references

Ground coffee, drip coffee, and inner-pack references

Ground coffee can pack differently from whole beans at the same weight. Drip-coffee outer sachets and small inner packs use three-side-seal or four-side-seal formats designed around the individual dose and packed insert.

Why the physical fill test still matters

Bean origin, screen size, roast level, degassing period, grind, bulk density, vibration during filling, material thickness, seal width, zipper position, valve position, and required headspace can change usable capacity. Reference dimensions reduce guesswork; the fill trial confirms the production decision.

Fill the bag with the intended coffee, settle it using the expected packing method, close the zipper, leave the required clean top-seal area, and confirm the valve remains above the product. Then review shelf stance, panel tension, opening, case pack, and final sealing before artwork approval.

Format-specific design and scale-up checks

Flat-bottom bags provide a structured shelf shape and broad front, back, and side panels. Stand-up pouches offer flexible sizing and a familiar retail footprint. Side-gusset and quad-seal bags provide vertical capacity, while three-side- and four-side-seal formats suit drip coffee and small portions.

A 5 lb bag should not be created by simply enlarging a small retail bag. Confirm seal width and strength, material gauge, handle or carrying needs, filling access, drop performance, case orientation, and distribution loads for the larger format.
