Start with the product, not the printed artwork

Zippers, tear notches, laser scores, windows, coffee valves, spouts, caps, and hang holes need controlled positions relative to seals, fill level, artwork, equipment, and consumer use. Each feature can change integrity, usable space, minimums, and validation.

Digital vs. flexographic vs. gravure printing

Digital printing can reduce plate or cylinder setup and is often evaluated for qualified shorter runs, market tests, seasonal versions, and multiple SKUs. It still depends on available films, web and color capabilities, lamination, pouch conversion, finish, and production scheduling.

Flexographic and gravure printing are commonly considered for larger repeat volumes. They can support specific spot-color, material, and finish requirements, but setup cost and quantity economics differ. Compare total program cost across all artworks and reorders rather than only the first unit price.

What determines custom stand-up pouch MOQ?

MOQ can come from printing, but it can also come from the minimum roll of film, adhesive and lamination setup, zipper or valve supply, slitting, pouch-making changeover, finish, size, and quantity per artwork. Digital printing may reduce one setup barrier without removing every downstream minimum.

Ask for quantities by size and design, and identify which SKUs can share the same structure, dimensions, zipper, and production route. A multi-SKU program is easier to evaluate when the supplier sees the combined annual demand and intended reorder cadence.

Prepare and approve stand-up pouch artwork

Use the supplier-approved dieline for the exact pouch. Mark the front, back, bottom gusset, seals, zipper, tear feature, valve or spout, code area, barcode quiet zones, and any clear, white, metallic, matte, gloss, foil, or tactile layers.
