Freeze the cap-and-fitment combination

A closure review needs identifiable components. Record the cap and fitment references, revisions, matching interface and any liner or sealing element included in the agreed design. Keep the pouch construction, filling conditions and household formula reference connected to the trial. A shared nominal spout size is not a complete component specification.

Clarify who supplies the components and who applies the cap after filling. If the filling partner uses a different component or setting during the trial, record the deviation before accepting the results. For initial selection, use the separate spout and cap fitment guide.

Separate application conditions from later removal measurements

The public scope of ASTM D2063/D2063M-24 covers removal-torque retention for matching continuous-thread closure/container systems under predetermined environmental conditions over time, using manual torque-testing equipment. The responsible test party should confirm whether the method and restraint or fixture are appropriate for the proposed flexible-pouch fitment.

An application setting and a later removal result describe different steps. Ask the evaluator to define both, including units, equipment, timing and the treatment of any tamper feature. Do not copy a torque value from another closure or assume that a capping-machine setting is a measurement of every applied cap.

Agree the storage checkpoints before filling samples

This suggested planning matrix helps the brand, pouch supplier, filling partner and test party assign responsibilities. It does not prescribe a torque target, storage duration or laboratory method.

Agree the storage checkpoints before filling samples
CheckpointEvidence to recordQuestion to resolve
Component baselineCap/fitment IDs, revisions and matching interfaceAre all samples the specified combination?
ApplicationResponsible operator, equipment/settings and agreed verificationWhat was applied, and how was it checked?
ConditioningProduct reference, fill, orientation and environmental conditionsDoes the plan represent the agreed application?
Time pointSample ID and elapsed time from applicationWhich storage checkpoint does the result represent?
Removal measurementMethod, fixture, equipment, units and reported resultIs the result valid against the agreed criterion?
Other observationsSeparate leak/interface examination and report referencesWhat does torque evidence leave unanswered?
DispositionAcceptance decision, open item and ownerCan this defined system move forward?

Have the evaluator specify the sample allocation for each checkpoint. Do not silently open and reclose a unit intended to represent an unopened stored package. If repeated opening is part of the intended-use study, label that history and evaluate it under its own plan.

Investigate a result in the context of the whole closure system

When a result is outside the agreed criterion, first verify the sample identity, application record, storage conditions and measurement setup. Record any visible thread, cap or fitment abnormality for further examination. A different reading is a finding to investigate; it does not by itself establish which component or process caused it.

Keep leakage observations separate. A torque result alone cannot establish that every interface of a filled pouch is leak-tight. The seal-integrity and leak-testing guide covers planning the corresponding evidence. Formula compatibility, safe use and any applicable closure requirements also need their own project review.

Request packaging with a defined acceptance handoff

Send P&M the household product description, relevant formula information through the agreed review process, fill quantity, pouch format and size, quantity per SKU, filling method and cap/fitment requirements. State who will conduct storage, removal and leakage checks and what evidence must be available before approval.

Use the household cleaning packaging page to discuss the supply project. Confirm the proposed materials and components against the actual application. P&M’s ability to discuss a spouted pouch does not imply chemical compatibility with every formula, an established torque range or provision of your filling-line tests.
