Direct answer

A qualified launch can start with 1,000 coffee bags when every bag shares the same format, dimensions, material structure, and base design; labels can then be divided in any quantity among multiple SKUs. Different sizes cannot be combined toward that MOQ. From 5,000 bags per single SKU, a fully printed direct-to-kraft route becomes practical, while orders above 100,000 can use a cost-optimized flexographic or offset route. Free Plates means required plates and finishing tooling are included in the applicable minimum order price instead of billed as separate line items.

The 1,000-bag multi-SKU launch solution

The 1,000-bag route uses one shared bag platform: the same flat-bottom, stand-up, side-gusset, quad-seal, or other approved format; one finished size; one material structure; and one base design. The common bag can carry the brand identity while a reserved label area identifies roast, origin, flavor, grind, lot, or other SKU-specific information.

Label quantities may be allocated freely across the SKUs in the launch. For example, the shared 1,000 bags may be paired with different label quantities for several coffees. The bag count remains one common production item; the labels provide the variable information.

  • Same bag format
  • Same finished dimensions
  • Same material structure
  • Same base design
  • Any practical label split among SKUs
  • Different sizes cannot be combined toward the 1,000-bag MOQ

How the common bag can be decorated

The paper face can carry a shared logo and permanent information while the blank SKU zone remains available for labels. Depending on the approved kraft face, options can include cold-foil branding and screen-printed black text on white or natural kraft, tissue, or glassine; opaque white screen ink can be evaluated on black or natural kraft.

Cold foil, screen printing, hot foil, and embossing require production tools. Under the Free Plates offer, the applicable tools are included within the minimum order price rather than added as separate conventional plate charges.

When 5,000 bags per single SKU is the better route

At 5,000 bags or more for one SKU, a complete printed design can replace the shared-bag-and-label system. Qualified direct-to-kraft production can combine CMYK plus white with cold or hot foil, screen UV, embossing, matte varnish, and other approved effects.

This level suits an established hero SKU, a stronger retail rollout, or a brand that needs the SKU information integrated into the printed design. Each size is calculated separately because size changes affect the web, dieline, material yield, printing, and bagmaking setup.

Why 100,000-plus bags use a different print plan

For repeat programs above approximately 100,000 bags, flexographic or offset printing of the paper can be evaluated to reduce unit cost. Artwork count, color set, kraft grade, finishes, delivery releases, and annual demand determine which route is most efficient.

The lowest unit price is not always the lowest launch risk. Forecast stability, inventory, SKU changes, artwork revisions, and storage should be considered before moving a growing coffee program into a long run.

What Free Plates means—and what it does not mean

Free Plates means P&M does not invoice the qualifying order for a separate conventional printing-plate charge. Required printing plates, screens, foil-stamping plates, and embossing tools are included in the applicable minimum charge or minimum order price.

It does not mean the tools have no production cost, that every specification has the same MOQ, or that unrelated sizes can share an MOQ. Lead time is calculated after the design, material, format, dimensions, finishes, and approval route are confirmed; MOQ may change with the final bag and material structure.
